The Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India once again demonstrated its leadership in building safer communities for children by hosting a vibrant Child Protection Week program at the God’s Love Child Development Centre on August 23rd, 2025. More than 90 participants, including parents, children, community representatives, and staff, came together in unity to reaffirm a shared responsibility: protecting the nation’s future generation.
A Walk with Purpose
Kicking off the day was a spirited Awareness Walk, where children and community members marched side by side, carrying banners and calling for greater action on child rights. The colorful procession was more than symbolic—it was a public pledge that child safety must be prioritized in every Sri Lankan household and community.
Words that Inspired Action
Following the walk, the gathering listened with great interest to Mr. S. Jeyaganesh, Child Rights Promotion Officer from the Karaichi DS Office. His powerful session highlighted practical steps for parents and communities to create child-friendly environments, ensuring children are not only protected but also empowered to grow with confidence.
Impact in the Community
This Child Protection Week celebration left a clear imprint on the participants and the broader community:
- Awareness about child rights was broadened and deepened.
- Children found their voices and expressed themselves with renewed courage.
- The message of shared responsibility echoed strongly, aligning with the diocese’s broader mission of nurturing safe and Christ-centered communities.
Faith and Humanity United
As Dietrich Bonhoeffer once wrote, “The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children.” For the Jaffna Diocese, safeguarding children’s welfare is not simply an activity but a theological calling—an expression of Christ’s love and justice.
This resonates with the conviction expressed by Sri Lanka’s longstanding friends in the world community, including Kofi Annan, who said: “There is no duty more important than ensuring that children grow up safe, free from fear, and full of hope.”
A Lasting Commitment
Through this initiative, the diocese has shown that child protection is not an occasional campaign but a continuous mission woven into the life of the Church and society. The event stands as a living testimony that when faith, families, and communities unite, every child in Sri Lanka can grow in security and dignity.
தென் இந்திய யாழ் ஆதீனம் விசுவமடு தூய திரித்துவ ஆலயத்தில் நடைபெறுகின்ற “கடவுளின் அன்புத்திட்டம்” சிறுவர்களுக்கான அபிவிருத்தி திட்டத்தில் குழந்தைகள் பாதுகாப்பு வாரம் சிறப்பாகக் கொண்டாடப்பட்டது.
குழந்தைகளின் உரிமைகள், பாதுகாப்பு குறித்து மிகுந்த கரிசனையுடன் பணியாற்றும் தென் இந்நதிய திருச்சபை யாழ் ஆதீனம் குழந்தைகளின் உரிமைகள், பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் ஒவ்வொரு குழந்தைக்கும் பாதுகாப்பான சூழலை உருவாக்குவதின் அவசியம் குறித்து விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்துவதே இந்நிகழ்ச்சியின் நோக்கமாக கொண்டு இந்நிகழ்ச்சி திட்டத்தை செயற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. திட்டத்தில் பயனாளிகளாக உள்ள குழந்தைகள், இயக்குநர் மற்றும் விருந்தினர்கள் அனைவரும் சாலை வழியாக விழிப்புணர்வு பதாதை ஏந்தியவாறு ஓர் விழிப்புணர்வு நடைபயணத்தில் பங்கேற்றனர்.
இந்நிகழ்வில் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக திரு. எஸ். ஜெயகணேஷ், குழந்தைகள் உரிமைகள் மேம்பாட்டு அலுவலர் (பிரதேச அலுவலகம் – கரைச்சி) கலந்து கொண்டு குழந்தைகள் பாதுகாப்பு குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வை வழங்கினார்.
இச்சசெயற்றிட்டத்தின் மூலமாக குழந்தைகள், பெற்றோர் மற்றும் சமூகத்தில் குழந்தைகள் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் உரிமைகள் குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வு அதிகரிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆமலம் குழந்தைகள் தாங்களே சமூகத்தில் விழிப்புணர்வு பரப்பும் நடவடிக்கைகளில் தன்னம்பிக்கையுடன் பங்கேற்றனர். சமூகத்தில் குழந்தைகளை பாதுகாப்பது அனைவரின் பொறுப்பு என்பதில் வலுவான நினைவூட்டல் அனைவருக்கும் வழங்கப்பட்டது.
இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி, குழந்தைகளைப் பாதுகாப்பதில் குடும்பம், பள்ளி, சமூகம் ஆகிய அனைத்தினரின் பொறுப்பு எவ்வளவு முக்கியமானது என்பதை வலியுறுத்தியது. பேனர் உடன் நடைபெற்ற நடைபயணம் மற்றும் விழிப்புணர்வு சொற்பொழிவு, இப்பகுதியிலுள்ள மக்களுக்கு சிறந்த தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது
