On behalf of the JDCSI Diocese, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, the Jaffna College community, and the JDCSI Cathedral congregation on the passing of Selvamani Teacher, a remarkable educator, musician, and faithful servant of God.
Selvamani Teacher’s life was a testament to humility, dedication, and unwavering commitment. Her extraordinary 50 years of service as an English teacher shaped generations of students with wisdom, kindness, and compassion. I am deeply privileged to acknowledge that she was also my English teacher—a mentor who not only taught language but instilled values of integrity, perseverance, and faith.
Her steadfast faith, exemplified by her regular attendance at church even amidst physical challenges, and her musical gifts, which enriched our worship, will be remembered with gratitude and admiration. Selvamani Teacher’s enduring legacy as a dedicated teacher and faithful member of JDCSI Cathedral has left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
As we grieve her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now in the eternal presence of our Lord, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
— Matthew 5:4
A Teacher’s Grace
She sowed seeds of wisdom, day by day,
With love and patience, she paved the way.
Her words, a melody, her heart so kind,
In every lesson, God’s love we’d find.
She shaped our minds, she touched our souls,
Through trials and triumphs, she reached her goals.
Now Heaven welcomes her, a faithful one,
Her legacy shines, her race is won.
In Christ’s Love,
Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan
Bishop, JDCSI.
