Church of South India, Murikandy – 44th Annual Thanksgiving Service and Inauguration of the New Building for the Child Development Centre
The 44th Annual Thanksgiving Service of the CSI Murikandy, Church and the inauguration of the newly constructed building for the Child Development Centre took place on August 23, 2025. The CSI Murikandy Church, established on the same date in 1981, has not only been a place of worship but has also served the community through various ministries such as a Daycare Centre for infants and a Women’s Home.
Despite having lost its infrastructure due to the impact of war, the church remained steadfast in its commitment to social service and continued its ministry in every possible way.
In a spirit of thanksgiving and renewal, the newly restored building was inaugurated today immediately following the annual worship service. The service, led by Rev. S. Guganeshwaran, began at 9:30 a.m. and was followed by a series of meaningful dedications.

The Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan, a respected 5th bishop of the Jaffna Diocese, consecrated the restored building and unveiled the Memorial Hall in honor of the late Bishop D. J. Ambalavanar. The lighting of the ceremonial lamp was followed by the opening of the Administrative Block by Mr. Joseph Johnson, a senior administrator.
The service witnessed the participation of senior church workers, assistant pastors, congregation members, and beneficiaries. Under the Child Development Project, more than 150 children up to the age of 22 will benefit through programs focusing on nutrition, education, and healthcare, with a strong emphasis on child protection and safety.
It is also notable that the project, which had been functioning from the church hall for the past three months, will now continue its services from the newly built facility starting today.
