“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
— Psalm 107:1
On August 30, 2025, St. Paul’s Church in Kalmadu Parish joyfully celebrated its 37th anniversary with a thanksgiving service and confirmation ceremony. The day began with a vibrant procession led by the school band, warmly welcoming dignitaries including Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan, Bishop of JDCSI, his spouse Bishop Amma, Diocesan Secretary Rev. Sathees Daniel, Area Minister Rev. S. Joseph, along with other respected clergy members.
The event reflected the vibrant culture of the community, highlighted by a traditional Kolattam dance performed by Sunday School children. A special moment was the dedication of a new cross place on the church grounds, led by Bishop Pathmathayalan, creating a peaceful sanctuary for prayer and reflection that will serve as a lasting memorial of this milestone.
Mission Reflection
Bishop Pathmathayalan’s message reminded all of the vital mission entrusted to the church: to proclaim the Gospel to the wider community. Echoing Pope Francis,
“Every missionary disciple is called to become, like Jesus, the bread broken for the world.
Under the guidance of the pastor, bishop, and diocese, St. Paul’s Church continues to serve faithfully, nurturing faith and spreading God’s love.

The solemn confirmation service was officiated by Bishop Pathmathayalan, during which four new members were confirmed into full membership of the church, strengthening the congregation’s unity and faith. The celebration continued with cultural programs performed by the Sunday School, and the community expressed heartfelt appreciation by honoring Bishop Pathmathayalan.
This annual thanksgiving not only honors the church’s history but also reaffirms its mission: serving the people with love, continuing the legacy of faith, and nurturing new generations in Christ.
Many in the congregation fondly remembered Bishop Pathmathayalan’s earlier ministry in Kalmadu from 1995 to 1999, a time marked by struggle and hope during the war time. His return as bishop brought profound joy and inspiration to the church and village community.
The day concluded with a fellowship lunch arranged by the current pastor, Bro. Edward Sam Sivalingam, fostering a spirit of togetherness
