“You shall be my people, and I will be your God.” Ezekiel 36: 28
Ezekiel 36 provides some of the most comforting rhetoric in this prophetic book. Jerusalem has fallen. This is the decisive moment for Ezekiel and his ministry. His prophetic message turns from judgment to hope, from reproach to promise. Now that God’s punishment has been received, Ezekiel turns to the future and to the ways that God will act to revive and restore God’s people.
Our focal verses (24-28) are midway through an oracle which begins in 36:16 and ends in 36:38. The opening verses of the oracle provide a history of the house of Israel focused on their misdeeds. They are reminded of their past and their disobedience, but the prophecy does not end there. Despite these actions and precisely because of God’s concern for God’s holy name, God will act now to rescue them.
God’s actions
The prophet’s theological proclamation does not focus on the people’s actions and responsibilities going forward. The emphasis is on God’s role. God’s actions in summary include:
• Gathering Israel back to the land
• Cleansing Israel
• Giving Israel a new heart and spirit to obey Torah.
The result of these transformations is that God will be their God, and they will be God’s people. Right covenantal relationship is reestablished.
My people, your God
The people will be transformed through heart surgery and renew their covenantal relationship with God. Ezekiel uses the language of Exodus (and Jeremiah) to explain this bond: “you shall be my people, and I will be your God.”
Despite all the threats of judgment from earlier in Ezekiel and considering the people’s distressing experience of exile (loss of land, temple, kingship, community), God desires to be the people’s God. God wants a relationship with God’s people as they move forward into restoration.
Dear people of God and Servant of God, God guided us throughout the last five months and now God has given us a new month. The prophetical book of Ezekiel gave a hope that “you shall be my people, and I will be your God.” So let us keep this verse in our heart and move forward. May Almighty God give you all the energy and strength to do so throughout the month of July. Amen.

‘என் மக்களாய் இருப்பீர்கள்; நான் உங்கள் கடவுளாய் இருப்பேன்’ எசேக்கியேல் 36: 28
எசேக்கியேலின் நூலில் காணப்படும் அழகான பகுதிகளில் 36 ஆம் பிரிவும் ஒன்றாகும். வாழ்வு முற்றிலும் அளிக்கப்பட்ட நிலையில் மிகவும் ஆறுதலான சொற்களை இப்பகுதி வழங்குகிறது. இப்போது எருசலேம் வீழ்ந்துவிட்டது. (எசேக்கியேல் 33:21 ஆ: ‘நகரம் விழுந்தது.’)
எசேக்கியேலுக்கும் அவருடைய ஊழியத்திற்கும் மிக முக்கியமான தருணமாக இவ்வதிகாரம் அமைகிறது. அவருடைய தீர்க்கதரிசன செய்தி நியாயத்தீர்ப்பிலிருந்து நம்பிக்கைக்கும், நிந்தனையிலிருந்து எதிர்கால வாக்குறுதிக்கும் மாறுகிறது.இப்போது கடவுளுடைய தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பு நிறைவேறிவிட்டதால், எசேக்கியேல் கடவுள் செயல்பட்டு மக்களை உயிர்ப்பிக்கவும் மீட்டெடுக்கவும் போகிறார் என்பதை இங்கு அறிவிக்கிறார்.
கடவுளின் செயல்கள் சுருக்கமாக பின்வருமாறு:
1. இஸ்ரயேலை மீண்டும் நாட்டிற்குக் கூட்டிச் செல்கிறார்
2. இஸ்ரயேலை தூய்மைப்படுத்துகிறார்
3. இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு ஒரு புதிய இதயத்தையும் ஆவியையும் கொடுகிறார் (தோராவைக் கடைப்பிடிக்க)
நாடுகடத்தப்பட்ட மக்களின் துன்பகரமான அனுபவத்தை (நிலம், கோயில், அரசாட்சி, சமூக வாழ்வு இழப்பு) கருத்தில் கொண்டு மக்களை மன்னித்து, கடவுள் மக்களின் கடவுளாக இருக்க விரும்புகிறார். கடவுளின் மக்கள் மறுசீரமைப்பிற்கு முன்னேறும்போது அவர்களுடன் உறவை மேம்படுத்த கடவுள் விரும்புகிறார்.
கடவுளின் செயல்கள்
எசேக்கியேல் இறைவாக்கினர் உடைய இறையியல் அழுத்தம் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் செயல்களைப் பற்றியோ அவர்களுடைய பொறுப்புகளில் கவனம் செலுத்தாத தன்மையைப் பற்றியோ அமையாமல் மாறாக அந்த மக்களுடைய வாழ்வில் கடவுளுடைய பங்களிப்பு, கடவுளுடைய செயல்பாடு எவ்வாறு இருக்கிறது என்பதை வெளியே கொண்டு வருவதாக அமைகிறது.
அன்பான இறைமக்களே, ஊழியர்களே, கடவுள் எம்மை கடந்த ஐந்து மாதங்களும் வழிநடத்தி, இப்போதும் புதிய மாதத்தைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார். ‘என் மக்களாய் இருப்பீர்கள்; நான் உங்கள் கடவுளாய் இருப்பேன்’ எனும் எசேக்கியேல் வழியாக கடவுள் கூறும் நம்பிக்கையான சொற்களை மனதில் இறுதி முன்னேறி செல்வோம். அவ்வாறு நடப்பதற்கு தேவையான ஆற்றலையும் வலுவையும் எல்லாம் வல்ல கடவுள் ஜூலை மாதம் முழுவதும் உங்கள் அனைவருக்கும் கொடுத்துக் காப்பராக. ஆமென்.
