“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.'” – Psalm 122:1

Inuvil, May 20, 2024 –

The historic Inuvil Church, a significant heritage site of McLeod Hospital, recently celebrated a grand renovation and rededication ceremony. Led by Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan, the event marked a major milestone in the church’s history of Jaffna Mission. The renovation effort, spearheaded by Rev. John S. Lingeswaran, Parish Priest of the church was initially funded by the diocese under the bishop’s guidance through the treasurer, saw an overwhelming response from parishioners, who contributed 80% of the required funds.

The rededication ceremony included a baptism and Holy Communion service, further enriching the spiritual experience for the community. A tree plantation event symbolizing growth and renewal was also held, followed by a fellowship dinner that fostered a sense of unity and celebration among the nearly 200 congregation members in attendance.

As one of the founding fields of the American Ceylon Mission, the Inuvil Church continues to be a beacon of faith and community. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan for his dedication to expanding the pastoral ministry, and to Rev. John S. Lingeswaran and his church family for their remarkable efforts in this significant undertaking.
