Dr. Samuel Fisk Green’s 201st birthday is commemorated at the Green Memorial Hospital, one of the first medical colleges in Asia; the hospital was founded by him in 1848 in Manipay, Jaffna District, Sri Lanka.
The Rt Rev. Dr. V. Pathmathayalan, the Bishop of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India, officers and the priests participated in the celebration of this historic occasion. The event was organized by the hospital staff and administrators. Everyone was amazed and appreciated the service rendered by Doctor Samuel Fisk Green to the soil of Jaffna.
It is gratifying to see that although this hospital has been losing its glory due to war and economic crisis in the country for the past two decades, now it is gradually growing in its status.
We congratulate the Friends of Manipay Hospital, working under the leadership of Prof. Jayantha Arnold, to collect funds for the development of this hospital.
